Tech Report (Background)

1.1.4  Sustainability Tracking In the present time, the majority are still using manual and paper-based methods to track sustainability performance. This could be time-consuming and prone to errors. In addition, the lack of real-time monitoring and feedback may lead to the need for updated opportunities and improvement. Hence, with the help of the app, it can provide a more efficient and accurate way of tracking progress and monitoring the sustainability performance of the project at hand (Getting more work, 2023). 1.1.5 Current Issues and Concerns on Sustainable Buildings One primary issue faced is the land scarcity in Singapore, which makes it difficult to encompass sustainable features such as green spaces and renewable energy sources. Additionally, high construction costs have deterred many companies from their efforts to increase sustainable features. The immoderate cost of sustainable materials and technologies in Singapore is the defining factor affecting the progress...

Critical Reflection

Coming to the end of the critical thinking module, I find the sentence “ process your thought process” appearing in my mind on several occasions. Recalling back to the start of the module, where I set certain goals for myself, I find myself improving/benefiting over and above that of the standards set. Starting with the Summary Reader Response it has equipped me with the ability to summarize long paragraphs into their main points. This new knowledge can help to extract  the essence of the proposals/documents without jeopardizing the important aspects. Moving forward is the Tech Report that requires an immense amount of teamwork, considering the hefty workload of the report, group member chemistry is extremely crucial in producing the finest Tech Report. Which helps to set the tone for future references in the workplace. Different walks of life conveys different behaviors/personality, being able to work well with them requires the ability to “process their thought process...

Summary Reader Response Draft#3

The article “Plastic-Eating Enzyme Could Eliminate Billions of Tons of Landfill Waste”, introduces the plastic-eating enzyme breakthrough published by Nature that could potentially solve plastic waste issues. The plastic-eating enzyme is an innovation that has the capability of reducing plastic waste on a macro scale. Thus, minimizing the detrimental effects of plastic waste. The trial results show that the enzyme can complete a process known as the “circular process” which has the potential to break down plastic compounds rapidly. The article also states that the project fixates on the compound polyethylene terephthalate (PET) which takes up 12% of global waste and an advanced natural enzyme, FAST-PETase, was reconstructed to tackle PET plastics. Intensive research of components found in plastic further pushed the benefits of FAST-PETase. Although recycling is the clear-cut method to eliminate extensive plastic waste, minimal efforts were seen. Current methods also contain bitte...

Formal Introductory Letter

Dear Professor Brad, My name is Chee Han Kok and I am writing to formally introduce myself to you. Coming from the studies of Electrical Engineering at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Veering off from the electrical engineering route has caused some doubts around. However, my interest in the engineering sector started when I started commuting daily on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)/ Bus. The noteworthy point was how public transport in Singapore made lives better for the general public. This in turn led me to wonder what other ideations/innovations can make the world a better place. I find myself corralled in said thoughts in many instances on how I, a fellow Singaporean, can help improve the quality of life in Singapore. Thus began my escalating interest in the engineering sector. I truly believe that every engineering sector has the potential to improve lives, thus my unorthodox route to achieve what I set out for at the start.            ...

Task 3: The Importance of communication skills for engineers

“ Without clear lines of communication, our ideas would stay within our own  small development teams instead of becoming mature products. While this is  obvious to those of us who have become experienced engineers, the real  question is: Why is it lost to us when we are engineering students?”  Akbar R Khan, Software Systems Engineer, USA,    “Good Communication Is Essential…” (2014) As discussed during the meeting. We feel communication skills are extremely important for engineers to maintain relevance in the industry. The experienced engineers are fully aware of how important it is to communicate as it is believed they went have went through the difficulties and understood the consequences in having unclear communications within the team. We We believe it is important to pitch out the individual ideations to procreate a better project. An engineer’s role is complex and it is difficult to come to the same consensus coming from different expertise. They enco...
